An accountability court on Saturday wrote a letter to registrar Sin
dh High Court seeking action against President Karachi Bar Association (KBA) Naeem Qureshi, reported a private news channel. KBA chief Qureshi entered the chamber accompanied by a group of people and hurled threats to the judge, wrote the judge.
“The bar president, giving no heed to the rule of law, threatened me with dire consequences and
said he was not afraid of anyone,” the content of the letter states.
This step by a lawyer is against the judicial ethics, the c
omplainant said. The ju
dge mentioned slogans were also raised against the honourable court. He sought registration of a case against the Karachi bar president after approval of the chief justice of Sin
dh High Court.
It may be noted here that the Sin
dh High Court on March 14 had ordered formation of a task force to help domestic violence victims at district levels.
In his written verdict, the court said the Sindh government failed in protecting women from domestic abuse. The SHC bench directed affectees to approach relevant courts so their cases could be heard timely. Justice Salahuddin Panhwar said magistrates must redress c
omplaints filed by affected women at the earliest.
The court also ordered the Sindh government to ensure strict implementation of the laws prohibiting violence on women.
